Favorite Radio Personality in Orlando

Do you have a favorite radio personality that you enjoy tuning in to each day? If so, then you just might appreciate this article. You might have also heard of the man behind this blog. He's been quite popular in Orlando for many years. He's also given back to the community and to his listeners probably more than he realizes.

When we tune into our radio host of choice, we realize that his voice makes a difference. He has something to say and we listen. It's difficult to banter back and forth since he's in the radio and you are possibly driving on your commute to work. Imagine other driver's expressions as you are speaking to your radio. Not such a pleasant site. You might not always agree with their points of view, but you agree to disagree. They might be too opinionated, but you are OK with that because if you agreed on everything there would be no challenge. In a nutshell you welcome a radio host into your daily life, you develop a relationship. You get sad when the relationship ends. You miss the daily contact. You want your radio host back, because your radio just isn't the same anymore without that voice coming out of it.

Doc in Orlando is the radio personality that I'm referring to. I've been a loyal listener for close to twenty years. Doc or as some of you might know him, Jeff Duncan, was born and bred in New Jersey. In the early 90's he chose to make Orlando
his home. In 1990 he began a radio gig on XL106.7 alongside Johnny Magic. Yes, this is the Doc that I am referring to. My daughters and their friends are also fans of Doc. The Doc & Johnny in the Morning Show was a sensational hit in Orlando. They were quite a team for 17 years until Doc moved on.

In 2007 Doc joined K92FM alongside his friend Grace Vasquez, also formally from XL106.7. How Doc transitioned himself from pop music on XL to country music on K92 impressed me. Since Grace is originally from Texas, I knew she would feel at home. Now, Doc on the other hand I was curious about. Yet, he was awesome! He blended right into the country music scene. I was in awe. Doc proved that he's a seasoned professional. When given the challenge he goes above and beyond to please his listeners. Doc and Grace were a match made in Radio Heaven until he parted ways with K92. As of August 2013, Grace moved on also.

Doc then moved onto Sports Talk on WRSO. He's acquired quite a fanatical following. How could his fans not appreciate Doc? He tells it like it is. Yes, at times he could be crass, slightly vulgar and possibly rude, but that's Doc! He's being himself. Who wants to listen to a fake host that just appeases the bosses? If he offends you, simply do not listen. We are fans because we want to hear what Doc has to say, not to judge him.

How many of you knew that Doc was multi-talented? Whether he's spinning songs on a music channel or sharing stats on a sports channel his listeners are never disappointed. He was also an announcer for the Nickelodeon Show "Family Double Dare" and announced the batting line ups for spring training baseball camps. Doc might not be young anymore, but he's still hip and could rock any station that he's hosting because his personality is what radio needs.

Message to ALL Orlando Radio Stations: Bring Doc Back! His fans need a Dose of Doc! While you are at it, bring back Grace too!

Message to Doc Fans: Let's make some noise! We Want Doc! We Want Doc! We Want Doc! We Want Doc! We Want Doc! We Want Doc!

Message to ALL Radio Stations: I do not like when radio personalities vanish from the airwaves and the listeners are left to pretend that our favorite hosts were just a figment of our imagination. Seriously, listeners are aware of what's going on. Show us the respect we deserve so that you don't lose us as listeners, because without us listeners you wouldn't have a radio station or sponsors.

In a nutshell...what radio station would not want to snag Doc as their host? He's a prize catch! He knows how to push listener's buttons so they would continue to push buttons on their radio dial to tune into The Doc Show!

  1. Radio hosts mean a lot to many-many people. They become the best friend and companion of thousands. I remember when one of our most favourite hosts, Rocco Erasmus, had passed away in his sleep - that was before TV.... It was if everybody in the province had lost a brother.

    Nice blog, Linda!

  2. OMG, I don't know Doc and I am in utter and complete shock!

I would be bereft if my favorites David Dye and Johnny Meister were just whisked off my radio...without an explanation!

Passionate plea, Linda and well written...Love, MM

  3. Linda, I'm not familiar with Doc because I don't listen to the stations where he aired. But I can comment on taking away our beloved DJs and morning hosts. The station I listen to has done it twice without so much as an explanation to the listeners. Sheesh! Show us (and the radio hosts) some respect! Fill us in when changes are being made. Better yet - ask us if we agree with your decision before yanking our favorites off the air!
